1. Project Description
a. We have a third floor attic that we would like to have converted into a studio apartment/study. The approximate area is 325 square feet.
b. The existing condition is unfinished with no drywall. There is some plumbing that was placed. There are no electrical outlets.
2. Your Goals
a. We would like to utilize the space as a potential live-in area for guests [Mother in-law suite] when visiting, but alternative use as a study/office.
b. What are your expectations/preferences/style etc.? We expect the space to optimized for storage and serve as a space for guests to live-in and entertain. We are considering adding skylights to improve lighting. The plumbing is available to make a bathroom in the corner space. We would want a full bath with corner shower [No TUB]. Our style is modern/eclectic.
c. We would like a plan layout with dimensions and details.
3. Design Consideration
a. What should designers absolutely know and consider in their design? We are unsure if some of the supports for the roof and walls are structural. We want to have the ceiling drywalled to follow the roof and not the cross beams. We would want electrical run to accommodate a small refrigerator and microwave.
b. Is there anything they should absolutely avoid? We are open to carpeting/hardwood. We are ok with pedestal or cabinet sink. We will probably have a couch with pull-out capabilities instead of a bed.
4. Your Selection Criterias
a. Things that you think are in particular important in your decision making? Affordability, Maximizing storage, a multi-functional space
