want to transform this barren backyard into an outdoor living space.
space will be used for dining at home, reading, relaxing, and entertaining.
backyard is on the west side of the house.
will add lots of pictures because I find it difficult to describe in words.
we like modern/contemporary style in keeping with era of house (1958).
prefer native plants (Houston, Texas).
would like to see lighting plan.
we have no irrigation system.
we have gumbo/clay soil.
there is a utility easement at rear of yard (see survey).
want to hide gas meter & electrical box (& bury wires to the house if affordable).
do not need to keep current decking and sidewalk.
we want to replace one of the master bedroom windows (the one on the back face of the house) with a door or french doors.
we have mixed feeling about the chinaberry(?) tree in the middle of the yard and the huge bush (so either or both could stay or go).
we want to add a pool/hut tub but will not do that for 5-6 years so would like a design that will look good now but that will also integrate with a pool in the future.
behind the back fence is easement for flood control.
would like to be able to do most of the work as DIY (but we are handy)
affordability is important - limit to $10,000 (excluding door from master bedroom and pool)
native plant selections are important
