I am planning retirement in my Rocking Tiny House. There is nothing to start with except your imagination and some measurements.
Please note- I am looking for a lovely living space where I can live for the rest of my life.
The measurements will be 8 feet x 24 feet long x up to 13 feet tall. The ceiling height can be roughly split. I am only 5' 2" son in the loft and below it can be a fairly even split. (External measurements)
The house is being built on a trailer so that it can be moved.
-Roof- a shed roof please, though one side of the loft will be short, it will give more
height in general to the sleeping area.
- Sleeping Loft - I will need an actual staircase with storage has to be used. I have arthritic
knees and cannot use a ladder. It would need to fit a queen sized bed.
-Entrance door, whether single or double on side of building. Regulation size please.
-36" shower, nothing smaller and no tub.
- Increase functionality for maximum space utilization. If an item can be transformed from
one use to another or several, that would be fantastic. See pull out table/cutting board in
- Art/creation area. I do beadwork for a hobby and other crafts so I need an area to
store/display my beads, threads and so on. Lots of natural light would be great. A regular
sized desk would suffice as far as the space. Perhaps something that can
be folded up or even raised on a pulley system when not in use.
-Storage, I probably have more supplies than clothes. A good amount of various hidden
storage would be ideal. When I say hidden, I only mean mostly with doors or other means
to hide the contents.
-Colors, I do not want to go the "wood everywhere" route that most tiny homes seem to
lean towards. It's nice, but not my style. I like vibrant colors along with black & white. I do
NOT want white furniture because of the dog. Patterns and texture as accents are also
- The budget for this project is $50,000.
I am not looking for top of the line but I do want quality. I have a builder who is willing to
work with the plans chosen and he will be able to come in within my budget.
Your plan is to include the descriptions and locations for:
- Counter tops (not granite)
- Appliances (please keep in mind that with the house so small, appliances should
reflect that, dishwasher (drawer dishwasher preferred because of size), induction
cooktop and refrigerator) I have no need for a full fledged stove, I just need space to
use/store the appliances I will have.
- Flooring (suggestions)
I prefer clean, contemporary, modern with a lean toward funky, unusual. I don’t want to get too specific because I want to see what you come up with. There are a numerous of sample images to give a gist of what I like.
Cost, functionality and appeal are most important.
I will judge designs on the following point system:
60 points: creative design that maximizes use of available space and appeal
20 points: creativity for balance of space/light and functionality
15 points: suprises, unique approches, unusual elements
5 points: pet friendly
I am VERY excited to see what your creative minds can come up with for this design. I've included images of houses that have elements/style that I like and ideas for storage. You do not have to include all or any, they are supplied to give you a better idea of what I like.
Good luck and thank you for taking the time to help me make my dream house come true!
