In this proposal, the Data Lab's functions and teams will be grouped into two main categories - Block C will cater to the Training and Engagement functions, while Block D will support functions for Co-working and Data Science. In this way, Block C which houses all training activities can run in a fixed schedule and Block D which is open to co-working activities is more flexible in terms of working hours.
The concept for Block C is about dynamic spaces wherein training and short group presentations can simultaneously take place. The interior design adopts local art by introducing wall coverings of popular artworks by local artist. The idea is to have each glass pod meeting room represent an artwork which then gives it a unique identifying character. In a similar manner, Block D adopts a more subdued mood by incorporating the flag colors of Tanzania as accent colors representing an area for co-working.
Connectivity between the two blocks is addressed by providing a covered linkway that runs parallel on each side of the blocks facing the large open space. The landscape concept is about creating ‘nodes’ of seating areas in which trainees and workers can enjoy some outdoor air and sunlight. These nodes are defined by planting hedges around them. The main focal point of the garden is a large tree that can provide natural shade in hot weather.
