Currently we have a deck off the back of our house. The kitchen leads to the deck which leads to the driveway area. We would like to replace the deck with a single story mud room. I think the minimum size of the mud room should be 9ft by 6ft (or 54 square feet). It can be larger, but cannot be larger than the current deck as that will interfere with the driveway. The exterior door leading to the driveway from the mud room needs to have a landing large enough for an adult to stand on the landing and open an outward swinging door. The existing windows on existing exterior walls will go away but we would like some windows on the new exterior wall of the mud room to let in light, but also need to balance windows with the need for wall space to have hooks and built-in cabinets and maybe a sitting bench. Outside will be cedar shingles like existing structure. Inside floor will be tiled. Would like the opening between the existing kitchen and the new mud room be as wide as possible, but it likely cannot be wider than 42 inches. Existing deck will be torn down and replaced with mudroom. There is no existing foundation to work with. One options for windows along driveway wall is the smaller windows (see picture with 27-inch windows). Open to any ideas on windows, but I think there needs to be some windows for natural light and the door should probably look like the existing kitchen exterior door.
