I'm a single guy looking for some sense of style for the living area in my small one bedroom apartment in southern Spain. The apartment complex which was built in the late 80's in a sort of mediterranean resort style has a white "bauhausy" look. It is located on a golf course set a few kilometres in between the the coast and the mountain.
I have lived in Denmark and are drawn to the sense of aesthetics, so I would like to achieve a stylish Arne Jacobsen-inspired interior with perhaps splashes of Miami Beach ArtDeco craziness.
I am on a shoestring budget, but not in a rush to get everything at once. I hope a lot can be achieved with paint, wallpapers, rugs and textiles, and maybe some signature pieces of furniture, like a (not egg) chair or sofa which I might be able to get second hand. The sun beats down very hard into the living room and although there is retractible awning in the terrace there still needs to be some strong window dressing to block the light in the summer but still create a cosy atmosphere in the winter.
The area which totals about 30m2 consists of small entrance which opens directly into an open plan kitchen separated from the living room with a bar height wall. The living room is surrounded by large windows leaving very little wall space, which I have always found a challenge for positioning of furniture in the most aesthetically pleasing way while at the same time having enough storage capacity. Therefore particular attention needs to be paid to the layout, but also to the sorts of accessories (textiles, vases, plants, lamps, etc.) that might add character to the otherwise exterior dominated aspect of the room.
There are two large square south facing windows separated only by pillars, and a side sliding window door that opens to a large terrace which wraps around the living room. The wall opposite is where the TV normally goes. There is door in the centre which leads to the bedroom and bathroom and there is a brick cladded fireplace in the corner next to the sliding door. The living room area is about 18m2. The floor is made of beige marble and the kitchen cabinets are all glossy white.
What you can see out the windows in the living room is the terracotta floored terrace surrounded by white balcony walls which overlooks mediterranean scrub vegetation down to the sea which is visible in the distance.
I would like the submission to include where possible internet links to sorts of materials, furniture and accessories used.
