Partial Kitchen Remodeling Project
Kitchen remodel, particularly, replacing cabinets, adding shelves, arranging appliances, framing a partial wall, designing laundry closet off of kitchen.
Kitchen is square shaped, attached to dining room (peninsula in between) which is attached to living room in an open floor plan that spans from family room dining room kitchen and laundry room affording long open view from front windows to rear porch. unit top floor of triple decker. countertops are soapstone and in good condition. sink is soapstone single bowl farmhouse style. counters and sink will remain. the peninsula/island separating the kitchen from the dining room will remain including the soapstone top. all other cabinets will be replaced. ceiling is in good condition. floor is hardwood throughout and in good condition. stove is circa 1940; gas range in lime green color. stove will remain. refrigerator is currently to left of range. this refrigerator will be replaced with a new stainless steel that is counter depth and 27in wide by 75in high. my idea is to place the new fridge on the back wall to the left of the laundry room opening. the dishwasher is new stainless steel adjacent to sink and will remain. walls will be plastered or skimcoated.
The problem is that the current cabinets are not functional and do not match. the existing refrigerator is too large and as it currently sits next to stove, there is zero counter space to either side fo the range. my idea is to place the new fridge to the back wall, and place counters and base cabinets to both sides of the range. above the range i would like a hood with a soffit exhaust to the rear of the unit (thru the laundry room).
GOAL OF PROJECT:
My goal is to have a functional kitchen with some counter space next to the refrigerator. at the moment, i am unsure if i should place the new fridge to the left of the range or move it to the new location on the back wall. i would also like to incorporate open shelves along the sink wall above the dishwasher. these shelves can either be braced. i am unsure as to put all shelves or incorporate upper cabinets. i also prefer open wall or shelves to either side of the exhaust hood.
The style of the peninsula cabinet is convex (curved outward toward the kitchen floor) and is oak that will be stained. the drawer and door pulls will be replaced on the peninsula. i prefer wood cabinets with possibly a modern face, maybe slab style. i like modern style but with an industrial feel. the lights along the ceiling will be industrial (see pic).
--south wall along sink and dishwasher: 125"
--west wall: total width: 142 1/4"; to laundry/pantry opening 66 3/4"; laundry room/pantry opening: 66"; small support wall to right of laundry opening: ; existing door opening to laundry room: 10";
--north wall: 92" to door opening at right of stove
--length of peninsula/island cabinet: 80; length of small support wall to left of sink: 13"
--sink is 32 3/4" wide; apron on sink is 8 1/4".
WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR:
-i am looking for ideas but would like to execute the project.
-i am open to a designer(s) visiting the kitchen.
-this is a partial remodel in that i intend to keep all countertops, sink, and dishwasher and stove. the range/stove is 37 inches wide.
-i do have a limited budget and am open to eco friendly products.
- i also have a stacked laundry unit in back of kitchen with open area next to stack that i plan to possibly house a microwave and pantry. i envision a pocket door or sliding barn door separating the kitchen from the laundry/pantry room.
- light fixtures above the peninsula/island are to remain as are the light fixture above the stove
-this is a unique kitchen with a lot of character. i do not want something straight out of a country magazine.
(1) PLAN VIEW: Scale 1/4"-1' (or 1/50)
I would like at least a plan view with advice as to where to locate a waste bin; what types of cabinets (i.e., pull out function, etc).
