The goal of the project is renovating the Porch and entrance of the building by remodeling the existing stairway and porch. The main concern of the client is creating a comfortable entrance to the building and reducing the area between the porch and the sidewalk. In this regard, the proposed design attempts to provide a hospital, attractive and intimate entrance at the same time.
First, the outdoor stairs are remodeled in order to increase the space of the entrance way, to separate the stairs from the sidewalk. This is solved by providing one step vestibule before the stairs begin. This stairway creates in the corner two small areas that are used for decorative planting.
Decorative conifer shrubs are placed in front of the porch as a green barrier to distance the porch from the sidewalk also to create a more intimate and entrance, as it is a dense populated urban neighborhood.
The porch awning will be replaced with a new one, which will shape a new identity for the building and will emphasize more visually the entrance of the building.
Due to the one floor structure attached to the building, the porch size is proposed to be 8'-11"x 6'-9" and the height will be 6'-8" from the sidewalk.
The porch awning will be a concrete structure and the roof will be the same as the existing building roof. The porch is bordered with a 58" white wood railing.
The materials chosen for porch finishing are durable and aesthetic materials. For instance, the stairs and porch will be covered by gray marble outdoor paving. While for the stairs wall is used stone finish.
