This project is about updating, remodeling and bringing more function to the house but also about respecting valuable historical elements, preserving the distinctive feel of the place and overall making the owners feel like home.
1. Ground floor plan
The Mud room is multifunctional, equipped with storage units enclosed behind hardwood sliding doors, a wash station and a small office area –desk and computer space.
This area functions very well as an entryway from the garage to the kitchen
The pet wash station has a new location, adjacent to the utility room
The patio is designed as a relaxation area with comfortable couch and armchairs as well as a dining table
The exterior glass walls can open into the garden in order to give the sensation of being outside
The fire place and the grill area are attached for the patio to have as much natural light as can be. Also the TV set is placed above the fireplace
The second bath is given a new access, gains more accessibility from the hallway
The bedrooms have maintained their proportions, the built-in closet was placed in the hallway to better serve all rooms including the main access area
The main consideration for this design is to make the living area a more open and fluid space, remodeled as to make the double fireplace the central piece
The walls were modified for new, built-in storage compartments
The central piece here is the large wooden dining table which is accentuated by the chandelier. The table is projected on a built-in casing that encloses a lot of storage space. The ambiance of the room is completed by the presence of the fireplace.
3. Dining room furniture
Classic look achieved with modern key pieces –reinterpreted medieval style with industrial aspects chandelier
Open plan kitchen equipped with a work island highlighted by glass lighting fixtures, added black board for a playful touch and farmhouse sink
The backsplash brings color and texture to the room, the tile flooring is durable and easy to maintain and it better defines the space. The patterns used here and different style furniture bring contrast in the space.
The focus of the room is on the fireplace which has also the TV set. The elegant, worm feel is provided by the desiderated blue hardwood paneling. The lighting in done on multiple layers: directional spotlights, chandelier, sconces and foot lamp.
The space has been remodeled in order to create a more intimate area. The bed projects on an accent wall made from recovered brick which is backlit.
Hardwood flooring was used in this room for a comfortable and worm feel, to provide unity with the rest of the house and for added texture, the rug.
The dressing is separated from the bedroom with folding doors and besides storage space it also has the role of a buffer space between the bedroom and the master bathroom.
A proper sleeping environment was created using warm artificial light, light tone colors, and natural light control.
It works better as the main access point because it has more storage space is now integrated in the living area.
8. Master bathroom
Has travertine flooring, an accent wall plated with a nature themed glass backsplash.
The adjacent wall has storage compartments and an enclosed shower behind glass panels with marble walls. The double sink is a classic element that adds to the ambiance situated between modern and classic
