I have always wanted a “secret garden” another world when you open the gate; a warm and inviting space for entertaining within a garden. The objective is twofold.
1) Choose paint color for exterior garage and Deck using Sherwin Williams paint to create a cohesive look between the clean landscaping of the front and sides of house, to the secret garden space.
2) Create a plan for a private secret garden taking into account the, non-negotiable elements like the ugly back of my house and garage, and the neighbor’s garage. A plan for both garden and deck elements.
Front: All Windows are contracted to be replaced and the black casing will be replaced with white. The house and garage are scheduled to repainted, soffits will remain white. The entry door will be replaced, the shutters will be removed to show the original glass panes(see pics). The driveway, walks, porch and lighting are less than two years old. The light fixtures and new mailbox and house numbers are a Antique Bronze color.
Entertaining Space: I like to entertain small groups. The deck area should accommodate my 38” x 82” farm table with 6 wicker chairs, a grill, some sort of unique serving area, where I could set up food and bar items. I was wondering if something could be permanently attached to the garage and/or the pass through to the garage could be utilized. In addition there needs to be a little spot with a comfy chair to have my coffee and read and room for yoga.
The current deck is scheduled to be refinished the same time the house is repainted. Ideally I would like to keep this deck and expand upon as needed, but would consider other options.
Garden: I would like to have the garden area as large as possible in the space - the less grass the better. I would like flowers from spring until fall. I envision quite a few climbers, containers…you name it, I would like to incorporate string lights not only on the deck area but throughout the space.
Back of the house: This is an eyesore… bricks, air conditioner, hose, and the mass of siding with the electrical?
