SITUATION OVERVIEW: (NOTE: Blueprints Included)
This house was affordable because the people who custom-built it had strange taste. We have self-funded interior updates and are now trying to self-fund an update to the front facade. Notice the circular window. We are keeping that and would ideally like to see that picked up in the design somehow.
-Location: Barrington, Chicago suburb
-Property: 2.5 acre semi-wooded lot. House sits atop a slight hill
-Size: 3000 sqft
-Built with quality materials and nice brick (Plenty of brick left over)
NOTE BUDGET: $12K - $20K
This is a weird 1985 custom house in a high-end neighborhood. We need to improve the curb appeal so it looks more like it belongs in this neighborhood. In short it needs to look cool, upscale and stylish. We like mid-century modern styling but realize that it may not work here. Notice the circular window. We are keeping that and would ideally like to see that picked up in the design.
Needed or Expected:
-Some type of portico
-Raise ceiling on front stoop (possible light fixture hanging) Give it more of a sense of HEIGHT.
-Update to strange scalloped shingles on front
-Possibly add rake to roof
-Reduce flatness of front
-Pick up the circular
NOTE: WE ARE OPEN TO OTHER IDEAS!
WHAT WE DISLIKE ABOUT CURRENT HOUSE:
-Strange "Gingerbread Chalet from Bombay" look
-Little fake pillars
-Scalloped/rounded shingles. (we like the regular shingles)
-Tiny windows (may be too expensive to update)
