I recently purchased a new home. It's a single story ranch style house. Although it is not a large home (around 1500 sq ft) the living room and kitchen open to each other in a great room type of layout so it feels spacious. The house has ceramic tiled floors throughout the whole living room and kitchen area. I like the tile for ease of maintenance and energy efficiency but it does give the room somewhat of a barren warehouse feel. I'm having a tough time trying to come up with good interior design for the living room/dining area. I just cant get a feel for something that works well with the tiled floors. Right now I rarely hang out in my living room because it just doesn't feel inviting or comforting to lounge in or watch TV. It's an empty slate and I'm interior design challenged.
I would like an interior design that makes my living room more inviting and bring a little color or pop to all the brown. I need a nice use of the small dining area. Perhaps a small dining table without cluttering the space too much. Some barstools at the kitchen island. Lastly some nice area rugs to bring in some warmth and/or color.
My style preferences are more on the contemporary modern side, although I'm open to transitional styles as well. I've always liked some of the crate and barrel stuff, room and board etc. I like a modern contemporary feel that's not overly cluttered, but I need some color as well. I'm all for painting the walls if it works for the interior design, although my home is sunny enough that the white walls can work as well with the right artwork.
I need design concepts but more than likely I will execute the chosen design as best that I can. I may want to work with the chosen designer after the competition but I do not need them on site.
I have a couch and loveseat that must work in the design. I am a bit concerned that both pieces may be too much for the room. I am willing to sell one piece because I would like a small modern recliner and I don't think all three pieces of furniture could work in that space. Also the layout of the couch and loveseat does not face the TV. The Loveseat looks away from the TV.
The old TV stand I have can be replaced. I intend to get rid of it as I will be purchasing a larger 55-60" TV.
It was suggested that I hang the TV on the wall to right of the front entrance but I do not want to do that.
I would prefer the living area has a larger area rug versus a small decorative rug.
My budget is $5000 - $8000
Fits within my budget
I am willing to pay for good furniture if it works best for the design.
I do not require eco friendly furniture/design.
I expect deliverables would include an interior design plan with recommended furniture and accessories along with color schemes and/or paint. Please provide brand/name and sku for any furniture, accessories and/or paint in the design. Also provide websites for purchase if available.
