We are starting with a blank slate in the backyard. It is gently sloping towards our house now. We would like a design that integrates a low wall to define the space and remedy the grading problem. We want a pool, seating area, and landscaping that feels like an extension of our home. We want a tropical feel to the landscaping with colored concrete and a wall that also matches the home. We want a small area of grass. We would like either a fire pit or possibly a fireplace also. We currently have a BBQ grill on the back porch that we may want to move to a different location, but keep it in the backyard for entertaining.
We are located in East Texas and the soils are very poor but the area is empty and ready to be transformed. The area approximately 70' wide and we want to use about 60 feet back.
Our home is white brick with white pillars that we must keep. There is existing concrete along the back of the house that we would like to stain or acid etch to match the new concrete in the design. Our home is on a 2.1 acre lot and the backyard is only about a 1/3 of the lot but we want the design to create a small retreat and enclose it. We have neighbors close to the north that we want to preclude their view with plantings and fencing.
The existing driveway comes up the north side of the lot and we need to keep the north property line open so it may be extended in the future to a future building at the far east end of the lot.
We want to incorporate a full backyard design with a pool, wall, plantings and concrete, but the budget is important so we want to consider a simple pool (ie. rectangular) design to keep the cost down.
